Public Shooting

The Range is operated for public use by members of the Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc., who are Range Safety Officers.  The range allows only .22 caliber rimfire pistols and any caliber rifles (except 50 BMG). Black Powder firearms are NOT permitted. It is open to the general public EVENINGS ONLY between the hours of 7:00 P.M. and 10:00 P.M. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

PUBLIC USE RULES

1. SAFETY PROVISIONS
a. Range Safety Officers are present and recognizable by their RED jacket with the words "RANGE SAFETY OFFICER" printed on them.
 
• They are there to help you with any problems you may have and insure all safety procedures are followed. They have full authority over the range and its operation.
 
 • You must follow their instructions or you WILL be asked to leave the Range.
     
b. A horn is often sounded over the Public Address system.
 
• It is used to  signal the end of a shooting session or to signal the presence of extreme danger.
 
• When you hear the horn, CEASE FIRE, BENCH YOUR WEAPON, move to the rear of the red safety line and wait for further instructions over the Public Address system.
  - BENCH YOUR WEAPON means all ammunition must be removed from the firearm, the magazine removed (if so equipped) and the action either open or locked back.
       
c. Only authorized firearms will be allowed on the Range.
 
• The following are the allowed firearms:
  - RIfles up to .45 caliber and .22 rimfire handguns.
  - NO SHOTGUNS OR MUZZLELOADERS ALLOWED. Standard firing target only. NO ZOMBIE or HUMAN SILHOUETTE targets.
 
• Possession or use of any illegal firearm constitutes a violation of law and appropriate action may take place.
 
• Any firearm and/or ammunition on the Range may be checked by a RANGE SAFETY OFFICER at any time.
     
d. Only authorized ammunition will be fired on the Range.
 
• No armor piercing or tracer ammunition is allowed.
 
• Factory loaded ammunition is preferred, however, reloaded ammunition may be used if it is determined to be safe by a RANGE SAFETY OFFICER.
 
• No 50BMG allowed.
 
• No steel core ammunition allowed. All ammunition will be checked by the Range Safety Officer. 
 
    
e. Eye and hearing protection is MANDATORY for everyone, either shooter or spectator, who is at the firing line during live fire.
    
f. Any firearm capable of being concealed upon the person must be in a locked container when it is brought to the Range (reference Section  25610 of the California Penal Code)
 
• A locked container is a container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or a similar locking device.
 
• Any time the firearm is not in use, it must be returned to and locked in the container.
     
g. Deliberate shooting at any part of the Range Structure constitutes vandalism and appropriate legal and/or civil action could take place.
 
h. ALL FIREARMS TRANSPORTED TO AND FROM THE RANGE MUST BE FULLY ENCLOSED IN A CASE. NO OPEN CARRY ALLOWED.
    
2. WHO MAY SHOOT AT THE COYOTE POINT RIFLE AND PISTOL RANGE
 
a. Any responsible adult over 18 years of age.
 
b. By California Law Minors cannot possess a concealable firearm or live ammunition except under following circumstances:
 
• All minors must be accompanied by his/her parent or legal guardian
  - A responsible adult over the age of 21 may substitute for the parent or legal guardian, but only with written permission from the parent or legal guardian.
 
• Minors 16 years of age or older do not need to be constantly under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian, however, they must have written permission from the parent or legal guardian to possess a concealable firearm or any live ammunition.
       
NOTE: Forms to give permission, as outlined above, are available from the Control Booth and only those forms will be acceptable at the Coyote Point Rifle and Pistol Range.
 
A violation of any safety rule may be cause for ejection from the Range.
